Hello, and thank you for subscribing to this newsletter!
I’m Sergei, editor of AI for Newsroom.
This is our very first (pilot) edition — a roundup of everything we’ve published on the website over the past seven days.
Right now, our database includes 150 AI initiatives from 123 news organizations across 35 countries. It sounds huge — and it is — but I’m sure it’s still only scratching the surface of what’s happening. AI is already helping newsrooms create and distribute content, engage audiences, and streamline internal workflows… yet we’re probably covering just a fraction of it.
What does surprise me, though, is this: we’ve only found 30 AI policies. Even when I visit the websites of outlets actively using AI tools, it’s often impossible to find any AI strategy, guiding principles, or even a simple disclaimer about AI use. That means transparency is still lacking. And I’m not sure why. Is it about trust? Are we using AI but avoiding making it a formal, transparent part of our processes because we fear the audience might lose confidence?
