The EU’s new AI transparency rules: What newsrooms need to change
From 2 August 2026 the EU AI Act’s Article 50 obliges newsrooms to disclose AI‑generated or manipulated text, images, audio or video that inform the public on matters such as politics, health or the environment, unless the material has undergone substantive human editorial review and a responsible person accepts liability. “Substantive review” means a deliberate examination of content, fact‑checking and the authority to amend or reject it—not merely spelling checks or light edits.
