Hello! This is Sergei.
This week we this newsletter is focusing on AI tools for journalists and its usage.
Two Swedish investigative journalists, Anton Berg and Martin Johnson, just launched something ambitious. They're investigating the most famous murder in Swedish history — Prime Minister Olof Palme, killed in Stockholm in 1986. Nobody knows who did it.
They're using AI to analyze the massive pile of data police collected back then. Thousands of documents, witness statements, files — the kind of chaos that would take years to process manually. They're documenting the whole thing in a podcast (it's in Swedish, unfortunately). Thanks to Mia Sahl for pointing this out.
And here's the perfect complement to that — Florent Daudens from Hugging Face just launched a repository of open source AI tools specifically for journalists. It's not fully packed yet, but I'm watching it closely.
(In the meantime, check our repository of AI related resources on AI For Newsroom)
