Audit any outlet yourself with the AI Visibility Check.

7. Overall conclusion

Scandinavian news outlets score an average of 73 for AI visibility, yet their technical foundation averages 98. This 25-point gap reveals a critical mismatch: infrastructure is solid, but content metadata, structured data, and AI-friendly markup are not deployed consistently. Publishers have the plumbing in place but are not preparing stories themselves for AI discovery and understanding.

VG leads the region at 93, followed by Sveriges Television at 83 and B.T. at 81. At the bottom, Aftonbladet scores 53, Svenska Dagbladet 54, and Klassekampen 60. Sweden underperforms its neighbors, averaging 70 across 10 outlets, while Denmark and Norway both reach 74.

All 29 homepages are technically accessible, but readiness averages only 52 out of 100. Article pages fetch cleanly at 100 percent accessibility, yet their readiness is 73. The homepage checklist average sits at 45, dragging down the overall checklist score of 59. Missing structured data and metadata on articles prevent AI systems from reliably extracting headline, byline, publication date, and topic tags.

Just 52 percent of outlets allow general retrieval bots, while 48 percent block them outright. Training bots face stricter barriers: 24 percent are explicitly blocked. Sitemaps are referenced in 76 percent of robots.txt files and are valid in 72 percent of cases. Publishers should audit their article schema markup and unblock retrieval bots selectively to increase AI model access to publicly intended content.

  • Each outlet URL was scanned with the same pipeline as the public AI Visibility Check: robots.txt, sitemap, homepage fetch, sample article discovery, 10-point AI search checklist, and bot rules for training vs retrieval crawlers.
  • Overall AI visibility score requires analyzable homepage or article HTML; technical foundation score is always computed from infrastructure checks.
  • Scores are point-in-time snapshots and may change after CMS or robots.txt updates.
